The customer/consumer is driving a new wave of competitiveness. Demand for new innovations is increasing. Customers want more and they want it faster. Price points remain flat, and people reward higher prices for only exceptional value.
This is forcing manufacturing executives to dig deeper to thrive and profit, forcing them to connect metrics to costs in real time to tune production, quote more accurately, and more accurately model product design choices, line designs and processes up front. They have to get closer to optimal the first time through.
With competitors reverse engineering more quickly, we need a sharper knife to slice through the myriad of potential improvements to pick the ones that will matter to customers and drive profits faster to the bottom line. Old continuous improvement initiatives must step aside for new, more agile customer and profit focused approaches.
